Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 28, February 2019

Highlights:

  •   The IRI weekly rainfall forecast predicts up to 50 mm of total rainfall in central parts of the island during 27 Feb – 4 Mar.
  •   Between 19 - 26 Feb: up to 70 mm of rainfall was recorded in Badulla district on the 26th.
  •  From 19 – 25 Feb: up to 36 km/h, easterly winds were experienced by the southern half of the island.
  •   0.5 0C above average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.

  •   The IRI weekly rainfall forecast predicts up to 15 mm of total rainfall in Anuradhapura and Trincomalee districts during 20 – 26 Feb.
  •   Between 13 - 18 Feb: up to 70 mm of rainfalls were recorded in Ratnapura district on the 16th.
  •  From 12 – 18 Feb: up to 22 km/h, easterly winds were experienced by the southern half of the island.

  •   The IRI weekly rainfall forecast predicts up to 100 mm of total rainfall in Badulla, Monaragala, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya during 13 – 18 Feb.
  •   Between 5 - 12 Feb: up to 90 mm of rainfalls were recorded in Galle and Matara districts on the 6th.
  •  From 5 – 11 Feb: up to 18 km/h, easterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   Average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.

  •   The NCEP weekly rainfall forecast predicts up to 35 mm of total rainfall in Galle, Matara and Ampara during 6 – 12 Feb.
  •   Between 30 Jan - 4 Feb: up to 90 mm of rainfalls were recorded in Colombo, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa districts on the 4th.
  •   From 27 Jan – 2 Feb: Nuwara Eliya district recorded a minimum temperature between 10-15 OC and most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC
  •  From 22 - 28 Jan: up to 28 km/h, northeasterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   Average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.

  •   Between 23 - 29 Jan: up to 20 mm of rainfall was recorded in Badulla district on the 25th.
  •   From 20 – 26 Jan: Nuwara Eliya district recorded a minimum temperature between 10-15 OC and most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC
  •  From 22 - 28 Jan: up to 18 km/h, northeasterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   Average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.
