Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 29, June 2017

Highlights:

  •  The WRF model predicts up to 36 mm of rainfall in Puttalam, Kurunegala, Gampaha and Kegalla district on the 30th of June. 
  •   Between 21-27 Jun: Rainfall up to 50 mm was recorded in Kegalla district on the 27th.
  •   From 18-24 Jun: minimum temperature of 15  OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while Northern and Eastern coastal regions of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35  OC.
  •   From 20-26 Jun: up to 54 km/h, North-Westerly winds were experienced by the whole island.
  •   0.5  OC above average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.

Highlights:

  •   The WRF model predicts up to 36 mm of rainfall in Western regions of the country on 23rd and 24th of June.  
  •   Between 14-20 Jun: Rainfall up to 80 mm was recorded in Galle district on the 14th.
  •   From 4-10 Jun: minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while northern and eastern coastal regions of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •   From 11-17 Jun: up to 54 km/h, northwesterly winds were experienced by the whole island.
  •   Average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.

  •   The WRF model predicts up to 36 mm of rainfall in Western coastal regions of the country on 16th of June.  
  •   Between 7-13 Jun: Rainfall up to 60 mm was recorded in Jaffna district on the 7th.
  •   From 4-10 Jun: minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while northern and eastern coastal regions of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •   From 6-12 Jun: up to 54 km/h, northwesterly winds were experienced by the whole island.
  •   0.5 OC above average sea surface temperature was observed in the northern and northeastern seas of Sri Lanka.

Highlights:

  •   The WRF model predicts up to 36 mm of rainfall in Kegalla district on the 9th of June.  
  •   Between 31 May-5 Jun: Rainfall up to 90 mm was recorded in Ampara and Monaragala districts on the 5th.
  •   From 28 May- 3 Jun: minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while Northern and Eastern coastal regions of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •   From 29 May- 4 Jun: up to 72 km/h, northwesterly winds were experienced by the southern regions; and up to 36 km/ in the northern and central regions of the island.
  •   0.5 OCC below average sea surface temperature was observed in the western and southern seas of Sri Lanka.

Highlights:

  •  The WRF model predicts total rainfall between 115-125 mm in Kegalle district from 31st May to 6th June.  
  •   Between 24-30 May: Rainfall more than 240 mm was recorded in Ratnapura, Galle and Matara districts on the 24th and also on the 25th in Ratnapura district.
  •   From 21-27 May: minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while eastern and northeastern regions of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •   From 23-29 May: up to 54 km/h, northwesterly winds were experienced by the southern and central regions; and up to 36 km/ in the northern regions of the island.
  •   Average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.
