Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 28, December 2017

Highlights:

  •   The IRI Model predicts total rainfall between 50-75 mm in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Ratnapura and Monaragala districts during 27th Dec 2017-01st Jan 2018.
  •   Between 20 - 25 Dec: Rainfall up to 60 mm was recorded in Hambantota, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura and Badulla districts on December 20th.
  •   From 17- 23 Dec:  minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while western and southern parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between  30-35 OC.
  •   From 19- 25 Dec: up to 36 km/h, northeasterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   0.5 OC above average sea surface temperature was observed in the southern seas of Sri Lanka.

Highlights:

  •   The WRF rainfall forecast predicts up to 36 mm of rainfall in Ampara district on December 22nd.
  •   Between 12 - 18 Dec: Rainfall up to 80 mm was recorded in Badulla and Monaragala districts on December 13th.
  •   From 10- 16 Dec:  minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •   From 12- 18 Dec: up to 36 km/h, northeasterly winds were experienced by the central and southern regions of the island and up to 18 km/h in northern regions.
  •   0.5 OC above average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.

Highlights:

  •   The IRI weekly rainfall forecast predicts total rainfall between 25-50 mm in Badulla and Nuwara Eliya districts during 6-11 December.
  •   Between 28 Nov- 4 Dec: Rainfall up to 120 mm was recorded in Matara district on November 29th and 30th.
  •   From 26 Nov- 2 Dec: minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •   From 28 Nov- 4 Dec: up to 18 km/h, westerly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   0.5 OC above average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.
