Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 25, May 2016
Highlights:
After heavy rains throughout the previous week, rainfall was gradually decreasing in this week. Highest rainfall up to 90 mm was recorded in Negombo and near Kurunegala town. According to the NOAA, further heavy rainfall is expected in the next week with 125 mm total rainfall is expected in south western region of the country. This shall go further up in the following week. MJO is in phase 5 and shall not have a significant impact on rainfall.

Highlights:
Most of the regions received high rainfall during 11th – 17th May while up to 200mm highest rainfall was seen in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara northern region of Anuradhapura on 15th May. Extreme rainfall conditions were seen in the entire country during the previous week. The rainfall is expected to decrease in the next week with heavy rainfall in south western region of the country. MJO phase is in 3 and shall slightly enhance rainfall.

Highlights:
Increased rainfall conditions were observed in the last week compared to the previous week. The entire country received rainfall during 3rd-9th May while up to 60mm high rainfall was seen in Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, northern region of Anuradhapura and south eastern sea region on 6th May. Both NCEP GFS and IRI CFS models predict heavy rainfall in the following two weeks with the entire country expected to receive more than 135 mm rainfall. MJO phase is in 3 and shall slightly enhance rainfall.

Highlights:
Up to 40 mm high rainfall was received by Colombo, Gampaha, Kegalle, Kurunrgala and Anuradhapura districts during the previous week. Galle and Matara districts also received up to 30 mm rainfall and apart from that more than 10 mm rainfall was not seen in the country. In April 2016 the entire country received below average rainfall except for Colombo, Gampaha and Ratnapura districts. The rainfall is expected to increase in the next two weeks. The high temperature shall continue in the country as the probability of having above average temperature remains high.
