Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 27, September 2018

Highlights:

  •   The IRI weekly rainfall forecast predicts total rainfall up to 200 mm in Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla and Monaragala districts during 26th Sep 1st Oct.
  •   Between 19 – 25 Sep: up to 90 mm of rainfall was recorded in Colombo district on the 24th.
  •   From 16 - 22 Sep: minimum temperature of 20 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while North-Central and Eastern provinces recorded a maximum temperature between 35-40 OC.
  •  From 17 - 23 Sep: up to 36 km/h, westerly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   0.5 OC above average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.

Highlights:

  •   The IRI weekly rainfall forecast predicts total rainfall up to 75 mm in Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts during 19th – 24th Sep.
  •   Between 12 – 18: Sep: up to 30 mm of rainfalls were recorded in the central parts of the island on the 12th and the 15th.
  •   From 9 - 15 Sep: minimum temperature of 20 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while northern regions of the island recorded  a maximum temperature between 35-40 OC.
  •  From 11 - 17 Sep: up to 18 km/h, southwesterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   Average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.

  •   The IRI weekly rainfall forecast predicts total rainfall up to 25 mm in most parts of the island during 12th – 17th Sep.
  •   Between 5 - 11 Sep: Dry weather conditions were observed in the entire country.
  •   From 2 - 8 Sep: minimum temperature of 20 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while northeastern and southeastern coastal regions of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 35-40 OC.
  •  From 4 - 10 Sep: up to 36 km/h, northwesterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   Average sea surface temperature was observed in the seas around Sri Lanka.

  •   Between 29 Aug – 4 Sep: up to 40 mm of daily rainfall was recorded in Batticaloa district on the 30th.
  •   From 26 Aug – 1 Sep: minimum temperature of 20 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while northeastern regions and southeastern coastal regions of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 35-40 OC.
  •  From 28 Aug – 3 Sep: up to 28 km/h, northwesterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   0.5 OC below average sea surface temperature was observed in the northwestern seas of Sri Lanka.
