Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 31 May 2012


Summary

Monitoring 
Weekly Monitoring: From 22nd May -29th May rainfall ranged between 5-145 mm. During the week heavy rainfall was observed for the South-western regions of the island. On 22nd & 29th May, no rainfall was recorded compared to the rest of the days in the week. 
Monthly Monitoring: During the month of April, the entire island has shown an above average rainfall. 
Predictions 
7 Day Prediction: For the coming week, an accumulated rainfall of 5 - 55 mm is predicted for the South-western regions of the island, and 5 – 35 mm is predicted for the entire island. 
IMD WRF Model Forecast & IRI forecast: For the 1st of June 2012, WRF Model Predicts less than 65 mm rainfall for Kalutara district. The rainfall shall spreads towards Colombo, Gampaha, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara districts with a decreasing pattern. The WRF Model Predicts the same pattern of rainfall to continue on 2nd June 2012 for the above mentioned regions. IRI models forecast 5 - 25 mm of rainfall for the entire country.

Summary

Monitoring 
Weekly Monitoring: During the week of 15th May-21st May rainfall ranged between 0-10 mm. During 15th-17th no rainfall was observed for the entire country. However during 18th-21st May there was rainfall compared to the period of 15th-17th, but rainfall was observed for the scattered places over Sri Lanka. 
Monthly Monitoring: During April, the entire island has shown an above average rainfall. 
Predictions 
7 Day Prediction: During next week, an accumulated rainfall of 5 mm -55 mm is predicted for the South-western regions of the island.

Summary

Monitoring 

Weekly Monitoring: During the week of 08th May-14th May rainfall ranged between 0-50 mm. On the 8th & 9th rainfall was observed for the Southeastern & Eastern regions & Mulativu &, Vavuniya districts. On the 13th no rainfall was observed for the entire country. 

Monthly Monitoring: During April, the entire island has shown an above average rainfall. 

Predictions 
7 Day Prediction: During next week, an accumulated rainfall of 5 mm -55 mm is predicted for the Southern half of the island. 
IMD WRF Model Forecast & IRI forecast: WRF Model Predicts less than 3 mm rainfall for the coastal regions of Puttalam, Gampaha & Colombo districts on 18th May 2012. On 19th less than 36 mm is predicted for the Colombo & Kalutara districts and spread till Kegalle, Ratnapura and Nuwara Eliya in a reducing pattern. IRI models forecast 25 mm of rainfall for the entire country.

May 10, 2012 Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report for Mahaweli Authority . This is an experimental climate monitoring and prediction advisory made for expert users.

Summary

Monitoring 

Weekly Monitoring: During the week of 02nd May-07th May rainfall ranged between 0-30 mm. On 3rd & 4th no rainfall was observed for the entire country. On the 7th of May 2/3rd of the Nothern part of the island received rainfall ranging between 0-30 mm, & highest rainfall was experienced in few places of Mulativu & Vavuniya districts. 

Monthly Monitoring: During April, the entire island has shown an above average rainfall. 
Predictions 
7 Day Prediction: During next week, an accumulated rainfall of 105 mm is predicted for the Southwestern regions of the island and it shall diminish along the Northeast way. However for the entire country an accumulated rainfall of 5 mm-105 mm is predicted. 
IMD WRF Model Forecast & IRI forecast: WRF Model Predicts less than 36 mm rainfall for Kalutara, Colombo and Badulla districts on 11th May 2012. On the same day less than 8 mm rainfall is predicted for the area from Puttalam to Galle, Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and Mulativu to Hambantota. For 12th May 2012, WRF Model predicts less than 65 mm of rainfall for the stretch between Gampaha to Galle, and less than 8 mm for Hambantota and Mulativu. On the same day less than 2.5 mm is predicted for Trincomalee.

Summary 

Monitoring 

Weekly Monitoring: During the week 24th April-01st May rainfall ranged between 0-190 mm. Most Parts of the country received rainfall throughout the week. The maximum rainfall of 190 mm was observed in Mulativ district on the 24th April. Compared to rest of the days in the week, 27th April and 1st of May received lesser rainfall of 5-10 mm in few isolated places in the country.

Summary

Monitoring

Weekly Monitoring: During last week (18th -23rd April) rainfall ranged between 0-140mm. Most Parts of the country received rainfall throughout the week. On the 20th and 21st , South Western parts received rainfall up to a maximum of 50mm. Almost whole island experienced the wet conditions during 22nd -23rd April. Particularly Northern, North Central and North Western regions received more rainfall and highest amount recorded from the Trincomalee district.
