Highlights
Monitoring and Prediction
Rainfall shall increase during 24th-27th and is likely to decrease gradually till the end of month (October 2013). However, significant rainfall event is likely to observer around 26th-28th October for the western slopes. Heavy rainfall is likely to observe for the southwestern regions and northeastern regions during coming two days (26th & 27th October).

However, rainfall is not predicted till 5th of October and 8th-12th October 2013. During 5th-8th low amount of rainfall is likely to observe. After 12th October rainfall shall increase gradually.

However, ongoing rainfall is likely to decrease gradually till 24th September. Significant rainfall is note predicted for the entire country, except for Eastern coasts which significant rainfall is likely to observe during 13th-14th September.

Puttalam to Kalutara districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on coming two days (6th & 7th September). However, Jaffna, Batticaloa, Northern Ampara and Badulla districts shall receive high amount of predicted rainfall during 2nd-7th. Ongoing rainfall is likely to increase gradually during 29th August-1st September. Thereafter rainfall shall decrease till 7th. For the entire country, ongoing rainfall is likely to increase gradually till 10th September and shall remain more or less constant (4-6 mm/day) during 10th-13th. No significant rainfall events are predicted for the entire country, except for the western coasts and eastern slopes during 12th-14th and 9th-11th September, respectively.

During past week (20th-26th August) rainfall was quite low compared to the month of July. Ratnapura and Nuwara Eliya districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on today (29th August) compared to rest of the regions of Sri Lanka. However, Matara-Batticaloa and Puttalam-Jaffna districts shall receive lowest amount of predicted rainfall during 29th-30th August. Ongoing rainfall is likely to increase gradually during 29th August-1st September. Thereafter rainfall shall decrease till 7th September. No significant rainfall events are predicted for the entire country, except for the Eastern slopes and coasts during 1st August-3rd September.

No significant rainfall events are predicted for the entire country, except for the Southern regions. Southern regions are likely to experience significant rainfall event during 23rd-25th August.

Rainfall was quite heavy in July in the Southwestern regions of Sri Lanka. Compared to the rest of the island, small regions in Galle & Kegalle to Puttalam are likely to receive heavier rainfall on tomorrow (16th of August). Ongoing rainfall is likely to increase drastically during 17th-19th August. Thereafter rainfall shall fluctuate below 3 mm/day till September. However, eastern coasts and southern regions are likely to experience significant rainfall event during 18th-20th August.
