Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 31, March 2016


Highlights:


Dry weather conditions continued in the entire country during 23rd – 26th March and thereafter north east, east and central regions of the country received rainfall during 27th – 29th March. Highest rainfall of 70 mm was observed around Katugastota and central region of Monaragala while Elahara and Polonnaruwa regions received rainfall up to 60 mm on this day. NOAA NCEP model predict no rainfall in the entire country during next two weeks whereas IRI CFS models predict up to 100 mm total precipitation around Nuwara Eliya and Badulla during 30th March- 4th April. MJO is in phase 8 and shall significantly suppress rainfall in Sri Lanka.

Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 24, March 2016


Highlights:


Dry weather conditions continued in the entire country during the week 16th – 22nd March where only central region of the country received rainfall on 16th March. Highest rainfall of 60 mm was observed around Aranayake while southern region of Kandy and north western region of Nuwara Eliya received rainfall up to 40 mm on this day. NOAA NCEP model predict slight amounts of rainfall in western, central, eastern and southern regions of the country during next week and the dry weather conditions are expected to be continued. MJO is in phase 5 and shall not have a significant impact on the rainfall in Sri Lanka.

Highlights:


During the week 9th – 15th March, dry weather conditions continued in the entire country where only north western and western regions of the country received rainfall. Highest rainfall of 60 mm was observed on 9th March around Rambukkana and southern region of Kurunegala and on 14th march around southern region of Kegalle. On 11th March rainfall up to 50 mm was observed in Matugama. NOAA NCEP model predicts dry weather conditions for the entire country during next fortnight. MJO is in phase 4 and shall slightly enhance rainfall in Sri Lanka.

Highlights:


Dry weather conditions continued in most regions of the country during the week 2nd – 8th March while only south western and central regions of the country received rainfall. Highest rainfall of 70 mm was observed on 7th March around the sea near Matara. Mawathagama received rainfall up to 60 mm on 8th March. NOAA NCEP model predicts dry weather conditions for the entire country during next fortnight. MJO is weak and shall not have significant impact on rainfall in Sri Lanka.

Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 03, March 2016


Highlights:


Dry weather conditions prevailed in most parts of the country between 24th February and 1st March where western, southern and south western regions received rainfall. On 24th February highest rainfall of 90mm was observed around the northern region of Ratnapura and western region of Ampara received rainfall up to 60 mm. Hikkaduwa received rainfall up to 70 mm on 27th February. For the next week, NOAA NCEP model predicts rainfall in western and south western regions and dry weather conditions for the rest of the country. MJO is in phase 7 shall suppress rainfall in Sri Lanka in a significant manner.
