Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 28, April 2016
Highlights:
Rainfall was received only in south western and north central regions of the country on 20th and 21st April but there was no rainfall during 22nd -26th. Highest rainfall of 90 mm was seen near Hanwella and surrounding regions on 21st April. NOAA NCEP models predict up to 65 mm rainfall in south western region of the country during 27th– 26th April. MJO is weak so there shall be no effect on rainfall by the MJO.

Highlights:
Rainfall received in central, southern, western and south western regions of the country during 13th-19th April. Highest rainfall of 70 mm was seen in Moratuwa and near Kurunegala town on 19th April and very less rainfall received in northern and eastern regions of the country during the previous week. NOAA NCEP models predict up to 45 mm total rainfall in south western region of the country while IRI CFS model predicts up to 50 mm total rainfall around Badulla during 20th– 26th April. MJO is weak so there shall be no effect on rainfall by the MJO.

Highlights:
Up to 100 mm heavy rainfall was seen in most of south western, western, north western and southern regions of the country during the previous week. Very less rainfall was seen in western districts of the country and the Jaffna Peninsula. NOAA NCEP and WRF models predict a continuation in heavy rainfall in the south western region. MJO is weak so there shall be no effect on rainfall by the MJO. El NiƱo condition is weakening and neutral conditions are expected by June, July which shall enhance rainfall marginally.

Highlights:
East, south, west, central and south west regions of the country received rainfall during 30th March- 5th April. Highest rainfall of 90 mm was observed around Ratnapura and Balangoda on 30th March and 3rd April while central regions of Kegalle and Kurunegala and Haputale received rainfall up to 60 mm on these days. NOAA NCEP model predicts up to 25 mm total rainfall in south western regions of the country during 6th –12th April and around central, western and south western regions during 13th- 19th April. MJO is in phase 3 and shall slightly enhance rainfall in Sri Lanka.
