Highlights: Dry weather conditions were experienced throughout the island during the previous week from 20th-26th September. Less than 10 mm rainfall was received by Ratnapura and Trincomalee regions. The minimum temperature of 20 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while the maximum temperature was recorded from the Northern and Eastern coastal areas to be between 35-40 OC. Up to 55 km/h north westerly winds were recorded in the southern regions of the country. For the period from 27th September - 11th October the NOAA NCEP model predicts dry weather conditions in the island. Up to 35 km/h north westerly wind is expected in the southern and western parts of the country. ENSO is still in the neutral phase and therefore shall not support rainfall conditions in Sri Lanka. MJO shall also suppress rainfall in the country in the next two weeks. Therefore the weather has a higher tendency to be dry over the next month.

Highlights: Mixed weather conditions were experienced in the previous week from 14th-20th September in the island. Eastern sea near the island received heavy rainfall on 15th with sea region near Batticaloa receiving up to 180 mm. The highest rainfall of 30 mm for the period was recorded close to Beligalla and Padiyathalawa near the Badulla Ampara district border. The minimum temperature of 20 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while the maximum temperature was recorded from the North Eastern coastal areas to be between 35-40 OC. Up to 35 km/h north westerly winds were recorded in the entire country. For the period from 22th-27th the NOAA NCEP model predicts dry weather conditions in the island. Up to 55 km/h north westerly wind is expected in the southern half of the country. In the central regions up to 55 km/h westerly wind is expected.

Highlights :Mostly dry weather conditions were experienced in the previous week from 10th-17th September along with slight rainfall in some areas. Highest rainfall of 60 mm was recorded from Kirama area close to Matara Hambantota border on the 12th. On the 15th up to 20 mm of rainfall was recorded in Mutur, Baduluwewa and Inginiyagala while the surrounding regions received up to 15 mm of rainfall. On the same day up to 90 mm of rainfall is shown in the eastern sea close to Vakarai. Within the week the RFE 2.0 tool shows total rainfall of between 50-75 mm near Kirama area close to Matara-Hambantota border, 10-25 mm in Trincomalee, Seruwawila and Trikonamadua areas in the Eastern Province and Ratnapura town and nearby areas. It also shows 5-10 mm of total rainfall in several areas of Kegalle and Ratnapura districts and rainfall of less than 5 mm in several areas in the Anuradhapura district and Ampara district. During the week the minimum temperature of 15-20 OC was recorded in Nuwara Eliya while the maximum temperature was recorded in the North Eastern region of the country that includes Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee and Vavuniya districts. Up to 55 km/h north westerly wind was experienced by the Southern province while the rest of the island experienced 36 km/h north westerly winds. The IMD GFS models predicts dry weather conditions in the coming week from 19th-25th except rainfall in some areas in the south western side of the country. The model predicts between 10-20 mm of rainfall in Kalutara, Galle and close by areas and the adjacent sea on 19th-21st and 24th-25th. On 21st between 10-20 mm of rainfall is predicted in Colombo as well. On 22nd between 10-20 mm of rainfall is expected in Kokkilai, Pulmoddai and surrounding areas. In the coming week up to 55 km/h north westerly wind is expected in southern and sabaragamuwa provinces while the rest of the country other than the northern region may experience up to 36 km/h north westerly winds. Kurunegala, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts may experience south westerly winds.

Up to 10 mm of rainfall was recorded from the Eastern sea and several areas in the eastern side of the country during the first few days of the week. The highest rainfall for the period was recorded close to Walasmulla near the Matara Hambantota border. The minimum temperature of 20 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while the maximum temperature was recorded from the North Eastern and Eastern coastal areas to be between 35-40 OC. Highlights :Dry weather conditions were experienced in the previous week from 5th-11th September. Slight rainfall of less than 10 mm were experienced by the north eastern sea on 6th , 7th and 11th. On 7th less than 10 mm of rainfall was experienced by the Northern Province, Kurunegala, Kandy and Polonnaruwa districts. On 8th up to 10 mm of rainfall was recorded in the south eastern and south western sea. On the 10th up to 10 mm of rainfall was experienced by the western province, Galle and Matara districts and the western sea. In the previous week minimum temperature was reported in Nuwara Eliya while the maximum temperature was recorded in the Eastern Coastal belt to be between 35-40 OC. Up to 55 km/h north westerly wind was experienced by the Uva, Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces while the rest of the country experienced up to 36 km/h north westerly winds. In the week from 13th-19th mostly dry weather conditions are expected in the country. On 13th,14th and 17th between 10-20 mm of rainfall is expected in the western province and the western sea. Up to 55 km/h north westerly wind is expected in the southern half of the country while up to 36 km/h north westerly and south westerly winds are expected in the northern half of the country.

Highlights: Dry conditions were mostly seen throughout the county in the previous week. The highest recorded rainfall in the week was on the 2nd which was less than 20 mm in the Northern regions of the country. As expected, the lowest temperature was recorded in Nuwara Eliya to be between 15- 20 OC while the maximum temperature was recorded from the North Eastern coastal belt to be between 35-40 OC. 0-1 OC above average temperature anomaly was experienced throughout the country. Up to 55 km/h north westerly wind was experienced in the lower half of the island. Considerably wet weather conditions are expected in the Northern province from 7th-13th September. Up to 35 mm of rainfall is expected close to Jaffna and Kilinochchi including the adjacent sea. Up to 55 km/h north westerly wind is expected in the southern part of the island.

Highlights :Wet weather conditions were experienced in the previous week from 28th August to 3rd September especially in the northern and north eastern regions of the island. On the 28th up to 40 mm of rainfall was recorded in the Trincomalee, up to 30 mm of rain was recorded in Pulmudai and Trincomalee towns while the rest of the Trincomalee, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts experienced up to 20 mm of rainfall. On 30th up to 40 mm of rainfall was recorded in the Jaffna sea a few kilometers away from the island. On the 31st up to 30 mm of rainfall was recorded in Jaffna district, close to Ullukulama in the border of Anuradhapura and Vavuniya districts, Ratnapura area and in the South eastern sea close to Galle. On the same day up to 20 mm of rainfall was recorded in Kilinochchi, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Galle and in the border of Ratnapura, Moneragala and Hambanthota. On 2nd up to 20 mm of rainfall was recorded close to Pooneryn in Kilinochchi district. The RFE 7 tool shows 25-50 mm above normal rainfall in the Jaffna district for the previous week. The lowest temperature was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district to be between 15-20 OC while the maximum temperature was recorded from Mullaitivu and Trincomalee areas to be between 35-40 OC. The entire country experienced up to 55 km/h north westerly wind except the northern region. The IMD GFS model predicts dry weather in the coming week from 5th- 11th September except 10-20 mm of rainfall in the western sea on 11th. Wind speed is expected to be reduced at the 800 mb level and up to 36 km/h north westerly wind is expected all over the island except in the northern region.

Highlights: During the previous week, wet weather conditions were experienced by Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts of the country. On 26th up to 35 mm of rainfall was recorded in Jaffna. As expected, the lowest temperature was recorded in Nuwara Eliya to be between 15- 20 0C. The maximum temperature of between 35-4O 0C was recorded in the northern and eastern coastal belt. Up to 55 km/h north westerly wind was experienced by the Southern and Central regions of the country. No extreme weather conditions were experienced by the country in the month of August. Wet weather conditions are expected in the Northern Province in the week from 1st-7th September. Up to 55 km/h north westerly wind is expected in the southern region of the country including North Western and Uva provinces.
