Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 23, February 2017

Highlights:

  •  The WRF model predicts up to 65 mm of rainfall in Kalutara district and 36 mm of rainfall in Southern region of country on the 24th. 
  •  Between 15-21 Feb: highest rainfall of 20 mm was recorded on the 18th in Lunugala region of Badulla distict.
  •  From 12-18 Feb: minimum temperature of 15  OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while Gampaha, Colombo and Kegalla districts recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35  OC.
  •  From 14-20 Feb: up to 36 km/h north easterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   0.5  OC below average sea surface temperature was observed in the northern and western seas of Sri Lanka.

Highlights:

  •  The NOAA NCEP model predicts up to 25 mm of total rainfall in the Southern province during 15th–21st February. 
  •  Between 7-13 Feb: highest rainfall of 50 mm was recorded in Kilinochchi district on the 13th.
  •  From 5-11 Feb: minimum temperature of 15  OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35  OC.
  •  From 7-13 Feb: up to 18 km/h northeasterly winds were experienced by the entire Island.

Highlights:

  •  The WRF model predicts up to 35.6 mm of rainfall in Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts on the 10th.  
  •  Between 1-7 Feb: no rainfalls were recorded in any part of the island.
  •  From 29 Jan-4 Feb: minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •  From 31 Jan-6 Feb: up to 14 km/h northeasterly winds were experienced by the entire Island.

Highlights:

  •  The WRF model predicts up to 3.5 mm of rainfall in Northern and Eastern coastal regions of Sri Lanka on the 2nd and 3rd.  
  •  Between 25-31 Jan: highest rainfall of 120 mm was recorded in Hambantota district on the 26th.
  •  From 22-28 Jan: minimum temperature of 15  OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while North Central, Wayamba, Western and Southern Provinces of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35  OC.
  •  From 24-30 Jan: up to 25 km/h easterly winds were experienced by the entire Island.
