Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 15, February 2018

Highlights:

  •   The NCEP model predicts dry weather conditions for the entire island in the coming week.
  •   Between 6-12 Feb: up to 80 mm of rainfall was recorded in Puttalam on the 6th.
  •   From 4-10 Feb:   minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between  30-35 OC.
  •   From 6-12 Feb: up to 18 km/h, easterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   Average sea surface temperature was observed in the northern seas of Sri Lanka.

Highlights:

  •   The IRI weekly forecast predicts total rainfall between 25-50 mm in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Badulla, Ratnapura and Monaragala districts during 7th-12th Feb.
  •   Between 31 Jan-6 Feb: up to 80 mm of rainfall was recorded in Puttalam on the 5th.
  •   From 28 Jan-3 Feb:  minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while western and southern parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between  30-35 OC.
  •   From 30 Jan-5 Feb: up to 36 km/h, easterly winds were experienced by the southern regions of the island.
  •   0.OC below average sea surface temperature was observed in the northern seas of Sri Lanka.

  •   From 2- 8 Jan: up to 36 km/h, northerly winds were experienced by the northern and central parts of the island and up to 18 km/h in the southern regions.

  •   Between 26 Dec- 1 Jan: Rainfall up to 60 mm was recorded in Hambantota, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura and Badulla districts on December 26th.
  •   From 24- 30 Dec:  minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while western and southern parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between  30-35 OC.
  •   From 26 Dec- 1 Jan: up to 18 km/h, northeasterly winds were experienced by the entire island.
  •   Average sea surface temperature was observed in the southern seas of Sri Lanka.
