Hydro-meteorological Highlights ,18, July 2016

Highlights : During the previous week, slight rainfall was seen in the south western region of the country in the first three days (from 9th-12th). Over the next few days rainfall had shifted towards the south eastern and eastern sides of the island. Maximum rainfall was recorded on 14th. On that day 50 mm of rain was received close to Arawa and 30 mm of rain was received in Badulla and adjacent areas. On 15th, 30 mm of rain was recorded in the Eastern region of Polonnaruwa. During the week from 10th-16th July, lowest temperature of 15-20 OC was recorded in Nuwara Eliya while maximum temperature was recorded in the Eastern side of the country to be between 35-40 OC. 10-15 m/s westerly wind was observed at the 850 mb level. No rainfall is expected for the period from 18th-24th except on 18th, 21st and 24th. On 18th, 20-40 mm of rainfall is expected in the western sea and on the 21st rainfall of 10-20 mm is expected close to Moneragala. On the 24th 20-40 mm of rainfall is expected in the western sea close to Colombo and Kalutara. For the period from 19th-25th, lowest temperature is expected in Nuwara Eliya while maximum temperature is expected in the Eastern region of the country to be between 35-40 OC.
