Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 29, December 2016


Highlights:

  •  The IMD WRF model predicts rainfall up to 35 mm on 30th December in northern and eastern parts of the island.  
  •  Between Dec 20–26: highest rainfall of 50 mm was recorded on the 26th in the surrounding regions of Padawiya in Anuradhapura district.
  •  From Dec 18–24: minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while many parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •  From Dec 20–26: up to 18 km/h north easterly winds were experienced by the entire island.

Highlights:

  •  The IMD WRF model predicts rainfall up to 35 mm on 23rd December in Galle, Matara and Balangoda regions.  
  •  Between Dec 13–19: highest rainfall of 100 mm was recorded on the 19th in the surrounding regions of Illavankulam in Puttalam district.
  •  From Dec 11–17: minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while many parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •  From Dec 13–19: up to 10 km/h north easterly winds were experienced in the northern and southern regions of the island.

Highlights:

  •  The IMD WRF model predicts rainfall up to 35 mm on 17th December in Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts.  
  •  Between Dec 6–12: highest rainfall of 50 mm was recorded on the 8th in the surrounding regions of Kumana.
  •  From Dec 4–10: minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while many parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •  From Dec 6–12: up to 28 km/h north westerly winds were experienced in the eastern and south eastern regions, and speeds less than 20 km/h in the rest of the island.

  •  The IMD WRF model predicts rainfall up to 64 mm on 9th December for coastal regions of Batticaloa district.  
  •  Between Nov 30 & Dec 6, the highest rainfall of 50 mm was recorded on the 30th in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mannar districts.
  •  From Nov 27 – Dec 3, Minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •  From Nov 29 – Dec 5, up to 18 km/h north easterly winds were experienced in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu regions while rest of the island experienced north westerly wind with speeds less than 10 km/h.

Highlights:

  •  The IMD WRF model predicts heavy rainfall (up to 125 mm) on 2nd December in the northern sea adjacent to the island.  
  •  A Significant decrease in rainfall events was experienced throughout the island during 23–28 November, with the highest recorded rainfall of 60 mm on the 23rd in Mannampitiya region.
  •  From 20-26 November, Minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC.
  •  From 22-28 November, up to 18 km/h north easterly winds were experienced in the northern and southern regions of the country while the central regions received up to 22 km/h wind in the same direction.

Highlights:


The NOAA NCEP model predicts heavy rainfall (up to 125 mm) from 23rd– 29th November for the coastal regions of Colombo. Heavy rainfall events were experienced throughout the island during 16–22 November, with the highest recorded rainfall of 140 mm on the 22nd in Hanwella and Giriulla. Minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC. Up to 20 km/h north easterly winds were experienced by the entire country.

Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 17, November 2016


Highlights: South western regions of the country experienced heavy rainfall during the latter part of previous week from 9th–15th November. The highest rainfall of 100 mm for the period was recorded in Imaduwa region on 14th. Minimum temperature of 15 OC was recorded from Nuwara Eliya district while most parts of the island recorded a maximum temperature between 30-35 OC .Up to 20 km/h north easterly winds were recorded in the southern region of the country. For the period after the 16th, November the NOAA NCEP model predicts up to 135 mm of rainfall for Sri Lanka outside the South with highest values in the North, East, North-Central regions.
