Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 18, February 2016
Highlights:
The entire country observed dry weather conditions during the week 9th – 15th February where only south east, south west and western ocean received rainfall. Rainfall up to 90 mm was observed in the ocean around Chilaw on 15th February and western, south western and south eastern ocean also received rainfall in the same day. NOAA NCEP model predict relatively high rainfall in south western region of the country in next fortnight and the rest of the country also expected to receive rainfall. MJO is in phase 6 therefore shall not have a significant impact on rainfall.

Highlights:
Dry weather conditions continued throughout the country during the week 3rd – 9th February where only ocean around Kalutara received rainfall up to 80 mm on 7th February. Western region of Kalutara received rainfall up to 70 mm and few regions in Colombo, Ratnapura and Galle received rainfall in the same day. NOAA NCEP model predict rainfall in eastern, north western and south western regions in next week.

Highlights:
Dry conditions were observed throughout the country between 27th January- 1st February except in the south western region of the country. In this region up to 40 mm rainfall was seen on the 26th. Furthermore, the entire country received less than average rainfall in January. Most models predict a continuation in dry conditions in the next two weeks.

Highlights:
Slight amounts of rainfall was observed in the country during the week 19th – 25th January. Kantale received heavy rainfall on 23rd January. Ocean around Nilaveli received rainfall on 23rd and 24th January and the rest of the country did not receive significant rainfall during this period. NOAA NCEP models predict no rainfall during next week in the entire country. MJO shall be in phase 3 therefore rainfall conditions shall slightly enhance in Sri Lanka.

Highlights:
Apart from the ocean around the eastern province receiving slight amounts of rainfall on 13th and 14th of January, no significant rainfall was observed during 13th – 19th January in the entire country. NOAA NCEP models predict slight increase of rainfall during next week in northern and central regions of the country. MJO shall be in phase 3 and rainfall conditions shall be enhanced slightly in Sri Lanka.

Highlights:
During the week 6th – 12th January, ocean near Kattankudy received the highest rainfall up to 180 mm on 6th January while Relatively high rainfall was observed in several regions in Batticaloa, Ampara and Polonnaruwa on the same day. No significant rainfall was observed during the rest of week. NOAA NCEP models predict decrease of rainfall during next week in the entire country. MJO shall be in phase 1 which shall enhance rainfall conditions in Sri Lanka.

Highlights:
During the week 26th December – 1st January, highest rainfall was observed in western region of Kilinochchi and the ocean near Delft Island on 27th December. Relatively high rainfall was observed in several regions in Matale, Moneragala and Badulla. NOAA NCEP models predict increase of rainfall during next week in south eastern region. MJO phase is in 7 and shall suppress rainfall of the country significantly. A continuation of strong El NiƱo conditions is predicted by the IRI and therefore in January the rainfall shall be low.
