Monitoring and Prediction
A decrease in rainfall compared to normal was observed over the country from 24th -29th December. The North- Eastern provinces are likely to receive significant rainfall during 2nd and 3rd January. The models predict rainy conditions less than 7.5 mm over the other parts of the country during this period. Overall the first week of January is likely to have rainfall up to 35 mm for the 1-7th period.

However, Eastern and Central provinces are likely to experience significant heaviest rainfall during coming week 17th-23rd December 2013. For coming two days (18th & 19th December), Eastern and Central provinces are likely to observe heavy rainfall and dry conditions prevail towards North and Northwestern parts of the country.

Rainfall shall decrease gradually till 3rd of December and shall increase gradually thereafter. However, significant rainfall shall not observe for the coming week (29th November-5th December 2013). For coming two days (29th & 30th December), Ratnapura district shall receive more rainfall compared to the rest of the island. Heavy rainfall is likely to observe for parts of Badulla, Moneragala, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts during 26th November-1st December 2013.

Rainfall shall increase gradually till 27th of November and shall decrease gradually thereafter till 2nd of December. Western coast shall receive significant high rainfall during 26th-29th November. However, significant minimum rainfall is likely to observe during 1st-4th December 2013. For the coming week (22nd-28th November) western coastal regions and Badulla and, Moneragala districts are likely to observe more rainfall compared to the rest of the island.
