Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 30 April, 2015


Highlights


The entire country received heavy rainfall during 22 nd - 28 th April but not continuously. Mre rainfall was observed on the western side of the country compared to the eastern side. Heavy rainfall is once again predicted in the region around Badulla by IRI CFS models. The MJO remained in a weak state for the third continuous week and therefore shall not influence the rainfall in Sri Lanka.

Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 23 April, 2015


Highlights


Heavy rainfall continued in the western side of the country with Kaluthara and Galle districts receiving more than 250 mm rainfall in the past week. In addition to this Kurunegala, Puttalam, Colombo, Gampaha, Kegalle districts also received heavy rainfall. According to NOAA predictions the south western regions shall receive more rainfall in the next two weeks.

Highlights


Heavy rainfall was observed in Sri Lanka in South western and Mannar regions which reached up to 140 mm in magnitude. NOAA models predict very heavy rainfall in the next 6 days in Badulla region.

Highlights


Heavy rainfall continued during the previous week with the highest rainfall observed in Puttalam and Kurunegala. Rainfall shall continue in the next week with more rainfall on the western side of the country. IMD WRF model predict heavy rainfall in the next two days while the NOAA NCEP model predicts a low amount of precipitation in the next 14 days.

Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 02 April, 2015


Highlights


Both dry and wet conditions were observed during the past week (23 rd March – 29th March). The IMD WRF model predicts 3-day rainfall throughout the country ranging between 1–60 mm from 31 st March – 13th April 2015. NCEP GFS model predicts dry conditions from 31 st - 6th April; and precipitation between 15-25 mm from 7th – 14th April.
