Weekly Hydro-meteorological Report, 26 February, 2015


Highlights


In previous week significant rainfall was observed during 22 nd to 24 th in all most all parts of the country. Highest rainfall for the week was observed on 23 rd in Tricomalee area around 95 mm. Rainfall is expected to increase during 26 th February to 3 rd March for the entire country and further during 4 th to 10 th March.

Highlights


During past week significant rainfall was only observed between 11 th to 13 th in western, southern, eastern and central areas averaging up to 10 mm. Highest rainfall for the week was observed on 12 th February in Ratnapura around 60 mm. During 18 th to 23 th rainfall can be observed in northern and western areas.

Highlights

Monitoring and Prediction

As predicted earlier by NOAA NCEP models, there has been rainfall since the end of January in various parts of the country. Based on IRI models, during 11 th to 16 th eastern, uva, sabaragamuwa, central and southern regions shall receive rainfall averaging up to 50 mm with highest expected rainfall in Badulla area averaging up to 75 mm. But NOAA NCEP models have provided a contradictory prediction which says that there shall be no rainfall during the next week and the week after. The sea around Sri Lanka continue to show neutral sea surface temperature.

Roughly entire country received rainfall during the past week averaging up to 20 mm. Some rainfall can be further expected between 6 th to 10 th February but thereafter a dry condition can be expected all over the country.
